5 Must-Have Upgrades for Your Shotgun
Whether you run a Mossberg 500, Remington 870, or Benelli M4, these five upgrades will dramatically improve your shotgun for home defense and sporting use.
1. Weapon Light
A shotgun without a light is only useful in daylight. The Streamlight TL-Racker replaces your forend and integrates a 1,000-lumen light — no extra mounting needed. For traditional mounting, Magpul's M-LOK forend plus a Streamlight HL-X is a proven combo.
2. Side Saddle or Shell Carrier
Keep extra shells on the gun. The Esstac shotgun cards, Aridus CROM, or classic Mesa Tactical SureShell carriers give you 4-6 extra rounds where you need them.
3. Sling
A two-point sling is critical for a home defense shotgun. The Magpul MS1 or Blue Force Gear Vickers work well. Make sure you have proper sling mounting points — QD cups on the stock and forend.
4. Stock Upgrade
Magpul SGA stock (for Mossberg and Remington) adds adjustable length of pull and cheek riser. If you want a pistol grip, the Magpul MOE stock gives you both options.
5. Improved Sights
Factory bead sights are slow. XS Sights Big Dot or a fiber optic front sight dramatically speeds up target acquisition. For tactical use, a ghost ring rear sight paired with a tritium front post is hard to beat.
